AFL great Matthew Richardson ‘shattered’ by devastating Trent Cotchin sight

An AFL legend and Channel 7’s favorite commentator Matthew Richardson is mercilessly mocked by his colleagues.
Before Friday night’s fight at Marvel Stadium, Richardson – ex Richmond Champion and the passionate Tigers man—watched the match between Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions with The Seven star Abbey Holmes and Luke Hodge commentators.

And then Seven’s cameras spotted former Richmond captain Trent Cotchin in the Brisbane camp.
Cochin and Richardson briefly crossed paths at Tigerland, with Richardson ending his career (in late 2009) as Cochin began in 2008.
Cochin apparently went on to become a Brownlow medalist and three-time Premier League captain for the club.
And Holmes couldn’t resist when he saw Cochin in the Brisbane hood.
“How much does this hurt your soul, Mattie Richardson?” Holmes asked.
Richardson was shocked.
“Who is this?” he said.
Holmes replied, “Who do you think it is?”
Richardson: “That’s not Trent Cotchin … what’s going on?”
Hodge is a Hawthorn legend but finished his career in Brisbane and shares a passion for both clubs.
“Koch is down there doing some leadership work with the Lions,” Hodge said with a big smile, deliberately adding salt to Richo’s wound.
Holmes joined in, “It doesn’t look good, does it?”
Cotchin retired at the end of last season and has taken up a role in Brisbane this year that sees him work with the Lions captains.
He is part of a mass exodus from the Tigers that includes former coach Damien Hardwick (who is now at Gold Coast) and chief executive Brendan Gayle, who is set to leave at the end of this year to become the first chief executive of the new Tasmanian side .
“Everybody’s leaving the Tigers … to be honest,” Richardson said.
“Oh, my,” said Holmes.
Hodge: “You stayed loyal, didn’t you?”
Then Richardson let him go.
“That’s it, he’s dead to me, Cochin. I will never speak to him again,” Richardson said, leaving Hodge and Holmes in stitches
“He’s broken,” Holmes said.
While Cotchin’s image may have also upset Tigers fans, they are bracing for some better news with superstar Dustin Martin set to play his 300th AFL game next week.
Martin will play his crucial game against Hawthorn at the MCG on June 15 in what first-year coach Adem Ise described as a “huge week for our club”.
“We want to celebrate one of our greatest players,” Yze said after the Tigers’ stunning win over Adelaide.
“We do that really well at our football club … we celebrate our people. And it’s an opportunity to celebrate one of our best.
“Obviously we’re going to have an amazing week before that.
“Our players will want to play well for him and make this a big occasion for him.
“So yeah, we’re not going to shy away from the fact that we want it to be a big spectacle and we want to obviously play well for it.”
