89 minutes: Hampton made a brilliant save! Kato gets on the end of a low ball over the goal and the keeper rounds it for a corner, moving to her left. Great reflexes.

88 minutes: France break in from the right through Cascarino, but her cross can only find the swinging boot of Bronze.

87 minutes: Russo finds the ball on the left and holds it well to win the toss. England slowed down with Kelly entering the book as a time stealer.

Penalty for France!

Williamson brings down Geyoro, who outsmarts the defender with a smart move. It’s just a decision for the referee.

68 minutes: Bacha sent a ball down the line for Dayani, whose cross was headed wide before France rounded it again, Geyoro’s shot blocked for a corner by Bronz’s outstretched leg. This could easily have turned into an own goal.

65 minutes: Lacrare plays a loose pass from the back and Toune intercepts – she tries to beat the keeper from the edge of the box but can only offer a simple save.

64 minutes: Crisis averted for England; Hampton is good to go. Carter cuts a French ball.

62 minutes: uh oo Hampton drops out for England and is a bit worried. Reminder: they are already missing Mary Earps due to injury.

60 minutes: Ingenious from England as the cross is played low to Stanway on the edge of the box… but her shot goes high into the night sky.

55 minutes: Bacha drives France forward and Katoto receives in the box, doing brilliantly to turn Williamson inside out… but she loses her balance trying to strike and England survive.

53 minutes: Bacha, who was lively down the left for France, picked up the ball from distance and fired a hopeful shot – but wide. For a second it looked like he was going to trouble Hampton, moving down the left.

50 minutes: Bright clears before Hampton gathers well in the box as Dayani tries to run onto a through ball. England just need to withstand some pressure at the start of this second half.

A great first half for England, led by Russo’s performance up top. She held the ball, fended off challenges with ease and scored the second goal after Stanway’s great opener. Sarina Wiegman’s faith in the team that played last week paid off.

45+4 min.: Toone tries a cheeky shot in the box but Peyraud-Magnin saves.

45+3 min.: Renard was found at the far post, headed across goal… and Kato headed home from close range. England almost find themselves wanting from a set piece…again.

45+2 min.: Stanway is penalized for a rough tackle on Bacha and France have a free-kick on the left.

45+1 min.: Four minutes added on as the St Etienne crowd roared France ahead. Williamson gets a head on a French cross from the left.

45 minutes: France worked patiently before Henry struck from around 30 yards; she hoofed it quite wide with her left foot.

43 minutes: Stanway almost repeated her opener, her ball being left in the same region – this time her stinging effort went wide.

41 minutes: Hamp takes a corner from the left, the ball almost falling well for Millie Bright to shoot, last-gasp intervention to deny her.

40 minutes: Walsh wins the ball in midfield and England are on the move again, Russo crosses from the right as he tries to clear Hamp.

38 minutes: The masterful Hemp comes up one-on-one on the left with De Almeida and sends in a lovely cross that Meade attacks but can’t get to.
