Family members discovered the bodies at Buzzy Bee’s Burger House on Oxford St in Cambridge Park, near Penrith, in what police described as a “confrontational” scene after they arrived at around 9.40am.
“The family is obviously devastated,” NSW Police Detective Michael Cantrell.
The alleged attack is believed to have been targeted.
“Police will argue in court that all three knew each other,” NSW Police said.
There were several lines of inquiry that led police to the now detained suspect.
“I’m aware there’s footage out there and it’s gone through social media and we’re looking into it,” Cantrell said.
Police released a photo of a man on a roof nearby on Saturday but said there was no ongoing risk to the public.
A man charged as the community mourns
A 31-year-old Canley Heights man was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Sunday at a Canley Heights home and taken to the Fairfield Police Department.
He was charged with two counts of domestic violence murder and was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.
“All motives are being considered at this point,” Cantrell said. “(But) we have no intelligence to suggest that there is any additional threat.”
Hoa Teck Chiem and Heang Kim Gau owned the business for 30 years and leave behind a community that is now in mourning.
Locals flocked to Buzzy Bee’s Burger House to place flowers in front of the shuttered shop on Saturday.
“Great people, great food. It’s heartbreaking,” a local woman told 7NEWS. “Dad was almost ready to retire.”
“They were the nicest people you could ever meet,” another local woman told 7NEWS. “They were hardworking, here seven days a week, (from) sun up (to) sun down.”
“The community loved them, they were just top people, so friendly, so welcoming. They had the best place in Penrith.
