Sunday with Micah Richards: ‘Body lotion is imperative for the modern-day man’ | Sunday with…

Time to wake up? If I’m working on football I’ll get up at 6.30am and straight to the gym. I prefer to work out on an empty stomach, so I tend to skip breakfast. I’ll grab a bottle of water or a protein shake.

Sunday morning? I’ll put on a tracksuit and get on the train from my home in Harrogate to London for work. After checking into the hotel, my barber comes to cut my hair. It’s built into me to look smart on the Lord’s Day, so I’ll be wearing a suit, shirt and tie.

Sunday lunch? I’ll eat at halftime in the first game, usually fish or steak. Food quality depends on the stadium. Spurs is the crème de la crème. Man City are doing their best to look after me. Anfield is great too. The pies in Burnley are absolutely gorgeous.

Sunday night? After we go off the air at 7:30 p.m., the world is my oyster. I’ll meet Jamie Redknapp or Daniel Sturridge for a delicious dinner. I’ll have a glass of red wine, then a Negroni as a nightcap. My mind is always racing after work, so I’ll relax with a box set.

Shower or bath? Ugh, I hate bathrooms! Sit in dirty water? No thanks. I’ll scrub properly in the shower with Laura Mercier body gel and old Dove soap, then apply Kiehl’s body lotion. This is imperative for modern man.

Childhood Sunday? My mum would try to get us to church but I would sneak away and play football all day in Potternewton Park, Leeds. My parents are from St. Kitts and Nevis, so we would have a Caribbean feast: chicken, rice and peas, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, maybe some oxtail and chicken patties. Large space for about 20 people. Madness.

If you could be somewhere next Sunday? Florence. Ever since I played for Fiorentina, I lied to myself that I was Italian. The people, the weather, the food, the culture – I love everything about it.

Do you love or hate Sundays? This is my best day. I work for Sky’s Super Sunday I feel like I’m back in the locker room. And sometimes I get to spend the day with Roy Keane. What don’t you love?
